PRIVACY POLICY

You have accessed a website (the Website) of the Legal Resource Centre of Alberta Ltd. (LRC).

At the LRC the security and integrity of our users’ and subscribers’ personal information is important to us. We take every reasonable measure necessary to protect your privacy..

The LRC’s privacy practices are in accordance with the applicable provincial law, the Alberta Protection of Information and Privacy Act (PIPA).

The LRC has in place privacy and security practices to safeguard our users’ and subscribers’ personal information. These practices are reviewed, and if necessary revised, on a regular basis.

Personal information is collected by the LRC for its subscriptions to LawNow Magazine. This personal information is information about an identifiable individual that may include such information as your name, e-mail address, phone number, credit card information and other financial information. The LRC collects this information for one or more of the following purposes:

  • to provide a positive customer experience, and deliver, bill for, and collect payment for subscriptions;
  • to understand customer requirements and make information available regarding new developments; and
  • to meet legal requirements.

In addition, with respect to LRC website users, the LRC server logs http requests (also known as “sending cookies”). This captures computer information, navigation and click-stream data such as the originating IP address of the computer. We do this only for statistical purposes. We do not attempt to identify the individual using the computer. We would only obtain specific personal information from you (such as your name, phone number or email address) if you supply it by sending us an email or registering in a secure portion of the site. Visitors’ personal (name, location) information will not be disclosed to anyone except LRC staff who might need the information to respond to requests. Individuals sending requests for information will be deemed to have given permission for their request to be addressed by someone at the LRC.

Aggregate data is used in site administration, planning and security. We use the data to ensure that our site is robust enough to handle the traffic and to understand which of our resource pathways are most used.

The LRC does not use or disclose personal information for purposes other than those for which it was collected, except with the consent of the individual or as required by law. The LRC retains personal information only as long as necessary for the fulfillment of those purposes. The LRC informs users and subscribers of the existence, use and disclosure of their personal information upon request and gives them access to their information.

All links to other sites are reviewed according to a set of standards. However, once the user follows a link and leaves our site, we cannot guarantee the quality of other links from the new site or the privacy and security of these sites.

Our sites use industry-standard security measures to protect data against loss, misuse and interception by third parties. Our security policies are periodically reviewed and enhanced as necessary. However, the LRC assumes no liability for interception, alteration or misuse of information transmitted over the Internet.

The various LRC sites may make forums, message boards, message threads and/or news groups available to its subscribers and visitors. Generally speaking, whenever you disclose personal information online there is a risk that the information may be intercepted, collected and used. That goes for information disclosed on message boards, in chat areas - or even in e-mail. The LRC is not responsible if that information is intercepted. You transmit information to anyone at your own risk Also please remember that any information that is disclosed in these areas becomes public information, and you should exercise caution when deciding to disclose your personal information.
