What does Elections Alberta do?

Alberta’s Chief Electoral Officer, O. Brian Fjeldheim, and his staff at Elections Alberta are very busy people!

As Sean Rathwell reveals in his article, Riding the Elections Cycle: The Role of Elections Alberta  in the November/December issue of LawNow, they run on a four-year cycle.

Since an election was held in Alberta just last April, the Office is busy handling the aftermath of that event. In addition, the government has signalled that it intends to bring a Bill before the Legislature that will change some aspects of the Chief Electoral Officer’s mandate with regard to investigating possible violations of the Election Finances and Contributions Disclosure Act.

And as if all  that weren’t enough to keep them busy, Mr. Fjeldheim has announced that he will be investigating the single large donation that the Conservative party received  from  Daryl Katz and some of his family and associates during the closing days of the election campaign.
